As expected, Skype recently pushed out an updated version of its iOS app that brings two-way video calling to the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. The new version, 3.0 is available on the App Store but only enables users with iPhone 4′s, iPhone 3GS’, and iPod Touch 4G’s to proceed with the two way video calling. All other devices such as the iPad and iPod touch 3G can only receive video of course, because they do not have cameras. Much like FaceTime, for all iOS devices with a camera, Skype allows calls from the desktop to any mobile device. Another feature the new Skype 3.0 boasts is the option to call over 3G, putting pressure on Apple and AT&T’s FaceTime, which can only work over WIFI areas. The new iOS Skype app certainly is a giant leap for the company, and soon, a competitor for what seemed to be a revolutionary feature, FaceTime. Skype has yet to release the video calling update to their app on other mobile devices. Check out the video Skype created to demonstrate the new calling.
