








With Microsoft’s recent opening of about 10 new stores, and the almost exact copy of the apple store employees. (If you are not sure what i’m talking about, just Google, “Microsoft Store employees” and then “Apple Store Employees”). Aside from the store competition, Microsoft and Apple have been competing to gain the highest amount of sales per new product. Recently Apple released the iPad, and a few months later the Microsoft Kinect was launched.
“The adoption rate of the iPad was celebrated as the fastest ever in electronics history. Now, less than a year after the tablet’s launch, Microsoft has usurped that distinction with Kinect.” (Huffington Post Tech) Within its first 25 days of launch the Kinect sold 2.5 million units, the iPad sold 3 million units in the first 80 days, more than three times longer than it took the Kinect to sell almost the same amount.
The Kinect had Black Friday on its side as Microsoft said they gained most of their sales from that single day. Walmart is probably the number one store that people rushed to last Friday, and it will be one of the top sites people sign on to tomorrow to get their fair share of deals. Recently Twitter, the social networking giant, started to post “Promoted Tweets” into user’s feeds. Adding ads to message streams is a big move for Twitter, and it remains to be seen whether users will take to the Promoted Tweets. In a blog post Twitter stated, “As with Promoted Tweets in search, we will display Promoted Tweets in the timeline when they are relevant. Similar to our Promoted Account recommendations, we use several signals to determine a Promoted Tweet’s relevance to a user, including the public list of whom they follow. We will expand the roll out only when we feel we’re delivering a high-quality user experience.” Twitter hopes to put ads on the feed that will appeal to the user, hoping to have success with their new project. HootSuite, a third party Twitter client, has teamed up with Twitter for this promotion. According to the site Ad Age, Virgin, Red Bull, and Starbucks are among the first brands to pay for the new service. Tomorrow Apple will be holding their “Back to the Mac” event in Cupertino. You can guess it got its title to symbolize that they finally have something new for Macs after all the recent iOS news. With each event announcement comes a photo. The photo for this event features an apple logo pealed back revealing a lion, possibly the name of the new Mac OS 10.7. Although the Apple OS systems are usually not released to the users for a whole year after announced, it is still definitely something to be excited about. The MacBook air is also rumored to be updated, with a smaller screen, possibly 11″. The “MacTouch” is yet another rumor that has been floating around the internet for quite a long time. Apple sent in patents for a large touch type mac. While this seems a little unreasonable, it is definitely possible as Apple strives to be the best and first in everything.
