Skype Introduces iOS Video Calls

Posted in News by Reed Barthold on December 31, 2010 No Comments yet

As expected, Skype recently pushed out an updated version of its iOS app that brings two-way video calling to the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. The new version, 3.0 is available on the App Store but only enables users with iPhone 4′s, iPhone 3GS’, and iPod Touch 4G’s to proceed with the two way video calling. All other devices such as the iPad and iPod touch 3G can only receive video of course, because they do not have cameras. Much like FaceTime, for all iOS devices with a camera, Skype allows calls from the desktop to any mobile device. Another feature the new Skype 3.0 boasts is the option to call over 3G, putting pressure on Apple and AT&T’s FaceTime, which can only work over WIFI areas. The new iOS Skype app certainly is a giant leap for the company, and soon, a competitor for what seemed to be a revolutionary feature, FaceTime. Skype has yet to release the video calling update to their app on other mobile devices. Check out the video Skype created to demonstrate the new calling.

“Back to the Mac” What will we see?

Posted in News by Reed Barthold on October 19, 2010 2 Comments

Tomorrow Apple will be holding their “Back to the Mac” event in Cupertino. You can guess it got its title to symbolize that they finally have something new for Macs after all the recent iOS news. With each event announcement comes a photo. The photo for this event features an apple logo pealed back revealing a lion, possibly the name of the new Mac OS 10.7. Although the Apple OS systems are usually not released to the users for a whole year after announced, it is still definitely something to be excited about. The MacBook air is also rumored to be updated, with a smaller screen, possibly 11″. The “MacTouch” is yet another rumor that has been floating around the internet for quite a long time. Apple sent in patents for a large touch type mac. While this seems a little unreasonable, it is definitely possible as Apple strives to be the best and first in everything. The last rumor is the 7″ iPad, almost like a little brother to the 10″ iPad that has already been out for 6 months. This is almost More…

iPad Roadster Folio Case – Logiix.net

With so many iPad folio cases out there, it’s really hard to find one that’s actually worth the price. Luckily I’ve come across the Roadster Folio Case by Logiix. It’s strong and well built while maintaining a thin, sleek and professional looking design. The exterior is a nice simple carbon fibre pattern. As soon as you open the case you’ll find well stitched pockets on the interior of the cover great for keeping credit cards or notes. Unlike other folio cases which simply hold the iPad inside with cheap straps that even cover some controls, the roadster folio features a full iPad cover while keeping all controls accessible at the same time. The interior of the case where the iPad is secured is soft fabric keeping it safe from scratches or marks. The biggest highlight of the case for me is it’s incline. Simply flipping the top cover to the back of the case and attaching it to a fold out holder will allow you to view your iPad on a slight angle perfect for typing and also straight up great for watching movies etc. If you’d like to find out more about the roadster iPad folio visit the Logiix website and follow them on twitter. Don’t forget to watch our video unboxing and review of the case.

September Apple Event Recap – What’s New?

Posted in News by Alec Morgana on September 1, 2010 No Comments yet

Today at Apple’s annual September iPod event they unveiled a full new line of iPods. Before I get into detail about those I also want to mention that iOS 4.1 for the iPhone and iPod touch will be available this week. Other than Game Centre being added it’s mostly bug fixes. 4.2 is coming in November for the iPad with all of the new features like multitasking. First Apple introduced the new iPod shuffle. The original buttons have been re added and of course voice over is still their as well. The iPod nano has been literally cut in half. The click wheel is gone and has been replaced with an incredible multitouch screen with icons which you can interact with much like and iOS device. The new iPod nano is only slightly larger than the iPod shuffle. Apple also introduced its new iPod touch which by popular demand has been suited up with an HD camera on the back as well as a front facing camera for FaceTime. As far as looks, it’s still the same silver back and now has the incredible retina display and is much thinner. We thought that was all but it wasn’t. More…

Inside the Apple Wireless Keyboard

Posted in Reviews by Alec Morgana on August 31, 2010 No Comments yet

Apple’s wireless keyboard can be used for many different things. Its main uses are of course for a Mac, iPad and now even iPhone. Since the release of iOS 4 the iPhone can now connect to a wireless keyboard as well. The keyboard connects simply over bluetooth, there is no receiver to plug into your computer. It’s also incredibly light and thin taking up virtually no space on your desk. It takes just 2 AA batteries which last a good 2 months if you turn it off while it’s not in use. As far as the exterior of the keyboard, it’s the same aluminum as Macs, has plastic keys and plastic on the bottom. The only thing it’s missing is light up keys but I can understand why they’re not there to improve battery usage. The wireless keyboard also works wonders for the iPad. The iPad goes from a tablet to a laptop in a matter of seconds by connecting it in the settings. Of course it works the exact same way with the iPhone as well. If you’d like to find out more about the Apple Wireless keyboard visit their website for full details. Don’t forget to watch our video review where we demo it on all 3 devices.
